Curatorial Note:
May's parents were Heiji and Suno Yamazaki, who belonged to the Powell Street Church before May was born. May, herself, grew up in the Kerrisdale neighbourhood of Vancouver (outside of the Japanese community) and attended Canadian Memorial United Church, a predominantly Caucasian congregation.
