Description: Cake in honour of Rev. Bob Baird, to mark the end of his ministry with Royal Height United Church (Delta, BC).
Curatorial Note:
Bob Baird was a beloved minister of the English-speaking congregation of Vancouver Japanese United Church. He began his ministry there in 1995 (immediately following his pastorate with Royal Heights), and served there until his untimely death in 2004. He was the first person not of Japanese descent to serve as president of Kyogikai, the National Japanese United Church Conference. This image of the cake reveals something of his character and the bond he developed with his congregations. It was among the photographs from the Vancouver Japanese congregation, and in a poignant way, reflects his role in that community and his sudden departure.
