Description: Rev. W.R. McWilliams ("Rev. Mac") and Bessie McWilliams at their home in Crescent Beach, Surrey.
Curatorial Note:
Rev. Roy and Bessie McWilliams had served as missionaries to Japan before the Second World War, and were fluent in Japanese. During the internment period, "Rev. Mac" (as Japanese Canadians affectionately called him) served the church at Tashme and generally as a minister-at-large for the internment camps. He helped the re-establish the Japanese United Church congregations in the Lower Mainland of BC after the war.
