Miss Hamilton was a WMS missionary to Japan and served as principal at the Toyo Eiwa Jo Gakko (girls' school) from 1925 to 1938. She was likely on furlough, visiting Canada in 1934. She would return to Canada during the Second World War and serve as principal at Lemon Creek High School, where Japanese Canadian teenagers who were interned could continue their studies.
