Place: Vancouver, BC

Description: A memo with attached letter from members of the Japanese-speaking and English-speaking congregations of Vancouver Japanese United Church. The memo is from Jim Chisholm, Conference Administrator, responsible for property and finance matters.

Curatorial Note:

The letter provides a history of the Vancouver Japanese United Church congregation and its former church buildings (Powell Street Church and Fairview Mission). The authors request that the Metropolitan Council consider the unjust sale of Powell Street property in its imminent sale or rental of the Columbia Street property (formerly Fairview Mission). When the Fairview property was sold in 1977, assets from the sale were forwarded to the Division of Mission in Canada, which established several funds, one of which was a Lower Mainland Japanese fund to be administered by the Metropolitan Council.
