Place: Vancouver, BC

Description: Correspondence from the Conference Administrator advising Vancouver Japanese United Church that $20,000 from the Lower Mainland Japanese Fund, originally given as a loan, has now been considered as a grant.

Curatorial Note:

The Lower Mainland Japanese Fund was established through a portion of the proceeds of the sale of the Columbia Street Mission in 1977. This correspondence essentially confirms that funds from the sale of the Mission could be applied to the purchase of St. Luke's United Church. The fund and this grant were a result of the congregation's earlier request in which the history of the Powell Street property was recounted; that story had already been forgotten by the wider church.
