Description: Correspondence urging the national church's action on accepting Welfare Industries' offer on the Powell Street Church property. Letter includes attached copy of letter from W.P. Bunt to George Dorey, March 9, 1953.

Curatorial Note:

This correspondence reveals something of the haste with which the Powell Street Church was sold, and the United Church of Canada's lack of consultation with the Japanese United Church community. Mr. Bunt's reference, "Their presence in the building has not been an unmixed blessing," is oblique and suggests that the dominant Caucasian community resented the very people who belonged in and had claim to the building.
