Description: Minutes contain the discussion of whether or not to maintain the Powell Street Church building for the use of the returning Japanese Canadians wishing to re-establish their community within the United Church in Vancouver.
Curatorial Note:
The minutes make it clear that the Japanese United Church community wanted to re-establish their home at the Powell Street Church. The minutes also show that the buildings (church and gymnasium) were in a state of disrepair. The congregation had cared for the upkeep of the building until uprooted by the government, and Home Missions had held--but not adequately maintained--the building in trust.
