Place: Vancouver, BC

Description: Minutes of the first quarterly meeting of the year. Minutes contain references to the many activities in both the Powell Street and Fairview churches. Excerpt ends with a report from the minister, Rev. Kosaburo Shimizu.

Curatorial Note:

Healthy numbers and growth trends dominate the reports in these minutes. The number of midweek groups are impressive. For example, the Fairview congregation alone had 214 students with an average attendance of 155. The Mission Band (for preschool children) boasted 100 members. Interestingly, the church's Building Committee describes repairs to the second floor hall and library, and wall repair and painting of the gymnasium, with the advice that money needed to be allocated to repairs each year. During the internment period, the Home Missions Board (which held the property in trust) allowed the buildings to fall into disrepair; the poor state of the structures may have been one of the reasons that the Board was anxious to sell the buildings in 1953. NOTE: Missing border on one side of each page in this excerpt indicates that there is another page in the same volume, just beyond the seam shown.
