Curatorial Note:
Pastor George Takashima was born in Vancouver and attended the Powell Street Church and kindergarten. His family was interned at New Denver, where they attended Turner Memorial United Church. After the war, the family moved to London, Ontario. Dr. Takashima spent several decades in the field of education, teaching mainly in Manitoba. In 1993, he entered the ministry within the United Church and served the Southern Alberta Japanese United Church in Lethbridge. He has served on the Board of the Nikkei Cultural Society in Lethbridge, and initiated the Internment Tour to the West Kootenays, to educate people about the internment during the Second World War.
